Looking for a rich and creamy yet super easy mac and cheese? I’ve got the perfect recipe for you. Get creative with your cheese, just make sure that you use at least a cup and a half of meltable cheese: cheddar, Monterey Jack, or swiss, in addition to any harder cheeses.
Prep time: 30 Minutes
Makes 4 Servings
8 Ounces Pasta
2 Tablespoons Butter
2 Tablespoons Flour
2 Cups Milk
1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Cracked Black Pepper
1 and 1/4 Cup Shredded Smoked Gouda
1 and 1/4 Cup Cheddar Cheese
1/2 Cup Bread Crumbs
- Boil the pasta in salted water until it is mostly cooked through. It should be about 2 minutes underdone.
- Melt the butter with the flour in a saucepan and cook until slightly golden brown and nutty smelling.
- Very quickly stir in the milk in small batches. Once all of the milk is added, boil the mixture until it is slightly thickened.
- Add all of the spices into the mixture along with the cheese.
- Pour the cheese sauce over the pasta in a baking dish and stir together. Sprinkle on bread crumbs and bake in a 350-degree oven until the bread crumbs are toasted, which should be about 15-20 minutes.
