3-Way Cupcakes

Same batter, three different delicious cupcakes? Yep, you heard that right! Vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet cupcakes frosted and decorated with the best buttercream. See recipe for fluffy buttercream here. Yuuuuum!

Batter:

Prep time: 20 Minutes 

Makes 30 cupcakes 

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour *

1 3/4 cups sugar

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup water

1 cup milk

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 cup vegetable oil

3 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

*For chocolate cupcakes, replace 1/3 cup flour with 1/3 cup cocoa powder, and for red velvet cupcakes, replace 2 tablespoons flour with 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon red gel food coloring

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine wet ingredients (milk, lemon juice, water, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla). *Add red-food coloring if preparing red velvet cupcakes
  3. Whisk together dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
  4. Mix wet and dry ingredients together until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into cupcake lined tins and bake in preheated oven for 20-24 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
